Frequently Asked Questions

Which taxpayers does CA Alok Kumar mainly work with?
Salaried people, doctors and other practising professionals, freelancers exporting services, high-net-worth individuals, NRIs and returning NRIs, along with businesses that need audit, GST and corporate compliance.
What are Form 145 and Form 146, and when is a CA certificate needed for a foreign remittance?
Under the Income-tax Act, 2025, Form 145 is the remitter's online declaration and Form 146 is the chartered accountant's certificate for specified payments to non-residents; they take the place of Forms 15CA and 15CB used under the Income-tax Act, 1961. A certificate is commonly needed when an NRI repatriates property sale proceeds or other NRO funds, and for certain payments abroad. Banks also ask for supporting documents for remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, such as education abroad. Read the Form 145/146 guide.
Can an NRI send the sale proceeds of property in India abroad?
Yes. Under RBI rules an NRI can remit up to USD 1 million per financial year from NRO account balances, which can include property sale proceeds, after applicable tax. The bank generally needs the Form 145 declaration and the Form 146 CA certificate, along with sale documents and proof of tax paid or deducted.
Who needs a net worth certificate from a chartered accountant?
Applicants for student and visitor visas, students showing proof of funds for study abroad, people applying for overseas investment or business programmes, and businesses bidding for tenders. The CA certifies assets and liabilities as on a date after verifying documents; each embassy or authority sets its own format and requirements. Net worth certificate details.
I have received an income tax notice. What should I do?
Do not ignore it. Check the notice is genuine using the e-filing portal's notice authentication service, note the reply deadline, and gather the documents it refers to. A reply is filed online; for scrutiny and faceless assessments the case is handled through the portal, with video hearings where allowed. How we handle notices.
Do you handle faceless assessment, block assessment and ITAT appeals?
Yes: replies and submissions in scrutiny and faceless assessments, block assessment for search cases including ITR-B, faceless appeals before the CIT(A) or JCIT(A), and representation before the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, where chartered accountants may appear as authorised representatives.
How is a freelancer in India working for overseas clients taxed?
A resident freelancer is taxed in India on worldwide income, under normal provisions or, where the work qualifies, the presumptive scheme. GST registration may apply above the threshold, and export of services can be zero-rated under a Letter of Undertaking. Tax withheld abroad may be claimed as foreign tax credit through Form 67 (Form 44 under the 2025 rules).
What is FAST-DS 2026?
The Foreign Assets of Small Taxpayers Disclosure Scheme, 2026 is a one-time window to declare undisclosed or unreported foreign assets and income. Declarations in Form 1 can be filed until 31 December 2026. FAST-DS 2026 guide and calculators.
From when does the Income-tax Act, 2025 apply?
From 1 April 2026, for tax year 2026-27. Returns for assessment year 2026-27 (financial year 2025-26) are still governed by the Income-tax Act, 1961.
Do you work with clients outside Delhi and outside India?
Yes. Documents can be shared through a secure upload link, meetings can be held by video, and filings are made online, so clients across India and NRIs abroad are served without visiting the office.
